NFL Alumnus, Tommy “JJ” McCleskey Jr., born and raised in Knoxville, TN, graduated from the University of Tennessee, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and Political Science degree in 1988. While attending the University of Tennessee, JJ was a walk-on for the Volunteer football team where he played the positions of defensive back, safety, and receiver. He was elected, by his teammates, as the Vols Team Captain his senior year.
Upon graduating from the University of Tennessee, JJ pursued his professional football career as a NFL Free Agent. He signed with the New Orleans Saints in 1993, and played the position of receiver for the first year, and moved to defensive back during 1994 – 1995. In 1995, JJ joined the Arizona Cardinals, and played as a defensive back until 2000.
In 2000, JJ returned to New Orleans, where he and his wife, Susan, and sons, Jalen and Justin McCleskey now reside permanently. In 2012, JJ founded ME Sports, where he trains student athletes of all sports. Along with the focus of training advanced skills needed to be an elite athlete, JJ provides inspiration to his student athletes to carry their hard work ethic beyond their athletic talents. JJ, along with ME Sports, drives the message of “U Can’t Hide Hard Work”.
In January 2018, JJ joined the Tulane University Football Program as an Assistant Football Coach.
